Final: At the doctor

[The scenes opens on Stacy and her mom sitting in a waiting room of a doctor's office. Stacy is looking at a magazine, her mom is reading a book]
STACY:
Why are we here in the doctor's office?
MOM:
You know why we're here, honey. Your school says you have to have a doctor's note every time you're absent.
STACY:
I know, but why are we in the doctor's office? I don't even know who this doctor is.
MOM:
Well your old doctor won't write you any more notes[mutters to herself] The jerk. [to Stacy] You would think he would be nice to someone who's sick.
STACY:
I'm not sick! For the last time.
MOM:
Then why have you been missing school lately?
STACY:
[quietly]
I don't know.
MOM:
[very sure of herself]
You're sick. That's why we're here today.
STACY:
So what are you going to do, drag me to every doctor in town until they're all so sick and tire of us so that we have to go kansas?
MOM:
No, you'll just have to start going to school.[stacy rolls her eyes]
NURSE:
Stacy?[Stacy and her mom get up to follow the nurse]
STACY:
[noticing her mom following her]
You're not coming with me.
MOM:
Yes I am.
STACY:
No, you're not.
MOM:
[trying to lower her voice]
I have to make sure that you will tell the doctor what is really going go.
STACY:
[pretend not to hear]
What?
MOM:
No, I just have to let the doctor know what's really going on because you won't tell him.
STACY:
That's because there's nothing wrong with me.[doctor walks in and sits on his stool]
DOCTOR:
[looking at his clipboard]
So what brings you here today?
STACY:
My mom force me to come here.
DOCTOR:
[looking up]
And why did your mom do that?[Stacy strugs]
MOM:
Because she's sick.
DOCTOR:
[speaks like he is surprise]
You're sick?! Well then, we'll have to fix that. [begins examining Stacy's ears and throat] So what seems to trouble you?[Stacy opens her mouth to speak but the doctor shoves a tongue depressor down her throat]
DOCTOR:
Say "AH".
STACY:
AH.
MOM:
Well she hardly ever eats and she looks really pale....I think she might be anorexic. Look how skinny she is.
DOCTOR:
I believe I was asking Stacy.
STACY:
Well, I don't really know. But I've been so sick that I've missed a lot of school lately, so if you could just write me a note.....
DOCTOR:
I think we need to do a blood test.
STACY:
[getting panicky]
What?! NO!
DOCTOR:
I think that's the only way to find out the problem is.
STACY:
I don't think that's a good idea! I mean, I just have a sore throat...you could prescribe me with some treatment and then everything would be fine!
MOM:
Honey, I think he's right. It will check about everything. You could be diabetic, anemic...you could even have cancer!
STACY:
Mom! I don't have cancer.[ignoring Stacy]
DOCTOR:
Don't worry. It won't hurt at all. In fact, it hurts more when they just prick your finger.
STACY:
You mean they're not going to just prick my finger?
DOCTOR:
No, of course not. I'll just go get the nurse and send her in. Don't worry. She's very gentle.[Doctor exits]
STACY:
[panicking]
Oh my gosh! I can't do this! I have to leave! I can't have a needle in my arm![nurse enters]
NURSE:
Hi. How are you?
STACY:
Horrible.
NURSE:
Oh come on now baby, it can't be that bad.
STACY:
I think it can.
NURSE:
Now look, I've done this a hundred times and ain't nobody died yet. So for us to get started may you please excuse us mom. May you please go to the waiting room. Don't worry, [laughing] I'll take good care of her.
MOM:
[smiling]
Okay. I'll be right out here.[mom goes and sits in the waiting room and reads her book]
NURSE:
Now don't worry sweetie pie, it'll be all over soon. I'm just gonna need your arm for a second. Now I'm gonna tie this touriquet around your arm. [starts tying a tourniquet around Stacy's left arm] [Stacy shudders at the word "blood"]
NURSE:
What's the matter, honey? You don't like needles?
STACY:
[trying to look away from her left arm]
I wouldn't say I don't like them......[cringes] I just think they're the work of devil. [still cringing]
NURSE:
Well you just keep looking over there and I'll just keep talking and by the time I'm done you won't even know what happened. [straightens Stacy's arm out and is about to stick the needle in]
STACY:
[pulling arm back; upset]
Don't! I can't do this. I can't. I can't.
NURSE:
Do you want me to try again?
STACY:
[trying to be brave]
Yeah.
NURSE:
Okay, now straighten your arm out for me...
STACY:
I can't.
NURSE:
Why not?[unties the tourniquet]
STACY:
[squirmy]
Because I know that when I straighten my arm out, you're going to stick me. Just that feeling of straightening my elbow makes me want to curl up and hide. [holds her arms close to her chest]
NURSE:
Well I can't take your blood if you don't straighten out your arm.
STACY:
[in a "duh!" kind of voice]
I know!
NURSE:
Come on now. We got to get this done. Just relax and straighten out your arm for me.[Stacy struggling to hold out her arm]
NURSE:
Okay now, how old are you?
STACY:
[looking the other way and cringing in advance as she speaks]
About 17.
NURSE:
So you're a senior?
STACY:
[still cringing]
Yeah.
NURSE:
And what school do you go to?
STACY:
[shouting]
I'm calling my lawyer!!
NURSE:
[stunned]
Excuse me?
STACY:
You're searching without a warrant!
NURSE:
What?!
STACY:
I mean you're holding me against my will!! [mad tone voice] And forget it, I'm getting out of here. [Stacy walks out of the room and is passing through the waiting room]
MOM:
[confused]
Stacy, where are you going?
STACY:
[as she is walking out]
I'm going to the bathroom. [stops just outside the waiting room, takes out her cell phone and dials]
STACY:
[spoken fast and urgently]
Hello? Hey, you've got to get me out of here! [pause] Because they're trying to kill me!! [pause] With needles and stuff! [pause] I am not over exaggerating! [pause] I'm not trying to run away, I just want you to come and get me! [pause] Okay. I know! Bye.
[Stacy's mom comes out into the hallway]
MOM:
Stacy, what are you doing?
STACY:
[frustrated]
I just called Kenji to ask him to come and rescue me, but he won't do it. Yeah, thanks a lot, boyfriend. I don't need support. I need a get away car.
MOM:
Well I think he's doing the right thing. He knows how important this is.[Kenji entered]
KENJI:
Hi. [gives Stacy a big hug and kisses her on the forehead]
STACY:
[grumpily]
Hi. I wish we were already halfway back to your house by now.
KENJI:
[lovingly]
You know I can't let you do that. If this it what the doctor says needs to be done, then you should do it, sweetheart.
STACY:
[whining]
But I really don't want to.
KENJI:
I know. But I'm going to stand right next to you and hold your hand the whole time, okay?
STACY:
[unwilling]
Okay.
KENJI:
Now lets go back in there and get this over with. Then I'll take you out for some treats.[All three walk back into the waiting room] [Mom sits down in chair] [Kenji and Stacy walk into the patient room. Stacy sits on the pateint table and Kenji stands next to her. The nurse walks in.]
NURSE:
I see you brought someone with you.
STACY:
This is my boyfriend. He's going to stay with me.[Kenji squeezes her hand]
NURSE:
Okay baby, we'll give it a whirl. [starts tying the tourniquet on Stacy's left arm] Are you ready?
STACY:
[determined]
Yes.
NURSE:
Okay here we go...[Stacy sqeezes her eye shut as the nurse sticks the needle in and draws the blood. During this, Kenji sees the needle and the tube of blood being filled and passes out on the floor.]Okay, it's all over. You can look now.
STACY:
[looking at the nurse and smiling]
That wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
NURSE:
Well congratulations, but somebody didn't think so. [motions to Kenji who is still on the floor] [Stacy notices Kenji, gets down on the floor next to him and props his head up with her hand while she tries to revive him; Kenji stays unconcious.]
STACY:
[jokingly]
Well, I guess I'm not going to get your treat after all!
